This bust represents Amenhotep, Son of Hapu, a renowned scribe and sage who flourished under Pharaoh Amenhotep III. Dating to c. 1440–1360 BCE, it commemorates one of the most celebrated officials and scholars of the New Kingdom.

He was a high-ranking official during the reign of Amenhotep III of Egypt, highly honored by the king during his lifetime and later deified more than 1,000 years afterward during the Ptolemaic period. Amenhotep rose through the ranks of government service, becoming a scribe of recruits, a military office, under Amenhotep III.
