Luna’s Road to Healing: From Surgery Setbacks to Signs of Recovery

RELEATED VIDEOS :

This morning, Luna was brought to the veterinary clinic for follow-up bloodwork and an examination of her surgical site. The results were encouraging: her CBC and blood chemistry were within normal limits, a sign that the antibiotics prescribed are beginning to take effect.

However, the journey has not been without challenges. Nearly half of the suture line from her partial mastectomy had come undone. Infection had caused her skin to swell, and in some areas, tissue began to die, forcing the sutures — some still tied in knots — to fall out. Initially, it seemed inevitable that additional surgery would be needed to remove the necrotic tissue.

But thanks to careful wound management, that step may no longer be necessary. Under her bandages, a combination of manuka honey and silver sulfadiazine has been working naturally to clear away the damaged tissue. The results so far have been remarkable.

Luna now undergoes three bandage changes each day. Each begins with a gentle cleaning using sterilized saline solution. In the morning and evening, silver sulfadiazine is applied to fight infection. In the afternoon, the wound is generously covered with manuka honey, known for its natural healing properties.

Her treatment plan is extensive but effective. Luna is currently on two oral antibiotics, two pain medications, a sedative, a probiotic, vitamins, and a traditional Chinese herbal supplement, Yunnan Baiyao, which promotes healing and supports blood clotting. Thankfully, her body has adjusted well — no more stomach upset, and her appetite has returned to normal.

If her progress continues at this pace, her wound is expected to heal fully within two to three weeks. For now, images of the injury are being withheld until the site looks less graphic, but her caregivers are optimistic.

Special thanks go to Dr. Stecher, who has been in close contact multiple times each day to guide Luna’s care. His dedication and expertise have truly been a lifesaving force for both Luna and her family.

Though there is still a road ahead, Luna’s story is one of resilience, compassion, and the incredible results that can come from dedicated medical care. With continued support, she is well on her way to recovery — and to a brighter, healthier future.
