Nearly a decade after Skeeter’s revolutionary book was published, Jackson, Mississippi has changed — but not fast enough. Aibileen Clark (Viola Davis) has become a respected activist and community leader, while Minny Jackson (Octavia Spencer) has built a small business, empowering and paving the way for other women of color. Skeeter (Emma Stone), now a successful writer in New York, returns to Jackson with plans to write a sequel — this time focusing on the women who have continued to fight for change, long after the first story ended. But old power structures don’t fall easily.
