King Khafre

Khafre was a pharaoh of Egypt’s 4th Dynasty during the Old Kingdom. The son of Khufu and successor of Djedefre, he is best known as the builder of the second pyramid at Giza and is traditionally associated with the Great Sphinx.
According to the ancient historian Manetho, Khafre was succeeded by King Bikheris, though archaeological evidence indicates that his successor was King Menkaure.
Khafre is best known as the builder of the second-largest pyramid at Giza, and most Egyptologists continue to attribute the construction of the Great Sphinx (c. 2500 BC) to his reign.
Beyond these monumental achievements, little is known about Khafre, apart from accounts written much later by Herodotus, nearly 2,000 years after his time.
