Pair Statue of a Chief of the Medjai and His Wife

Ancient Egypt, Upper Egypt, Thebes, Sheikh Abd el-Qurna
End of the 18th Dynasty or beginning of the 19th Dynasty
This finely carved yellow sandstone statue depicts a Chief of the Medjai, an ancient Egyptian police official, seated alongside his wife.
Both figures wear long pleated robes, elaborate collars, and heavy wigs, reflecting their social status and the formal conventions of Egyptian sculpture. Excavated by A.H. Rhind, the statue exemplifies the artistry and attention to detail characteristic of the late 18th and early 19th Dynasties.
