Family Statue from the Amarna Period

Statue of Two Men and a Boy, Domestic Icon
New Kingdom, Amarna Period, ca. 1353–1336 B.C.
This intriguing statue depicts a small group of three male figures, rendered according to the distinctive artistic conventions of the Amarna Period.
The group has been interpreted in two ways: either as a family consisting of a grandfather, father, and son, or as a representation of the same individual at three different stages of life. The latter interpretation is unlikely, however, since multiple depictions of a single person are never shown interacting so intimately.
