Utah Woman Accused of Killing Husband Learns She’s Not in His Will

A Utah woman accused of fatally poisoning her husband is facing new revelations about his estate. Kouri Richins, a 33-year-old mother of three, has been charged with the murder of her husband, Eric Richins, after authorities say she allegedly laced his drink with a lethal dose of fentanyl.

The case drew widespread attention earlier this year when Kouri published a children’s book about grief, inspired, she said, by the loss of her husband. The book was written to help her young sons cope with their father’s sudden death.

But behind the scenes, court records reveal a far more complex story. Although Kouri was reportedly set to inherit Eric’s estate — valued at approximately $3.6 million — under the couple’s prenuptial agreement, Eric had quietly taken legal steps to protect his assets.

According to filings, Eric had grown concerned about his safety and transferred his wealth into a trust controlled by his sister before his death. This move effectively removed Kouri as the primary beneficiary.

Investigators allege that in March 2022, Kouri prepared a Moscow Mule cocktail for her husband, which was later found to contain five times the lethal amount of fentanyl. Eric was discovered unresponsive shortly after consuming the drink and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Kouri Richins has pleaded not guilty to aggravated murder and related charges. She is currently being held in jail as the legal case proceeds.

The story continues to unfold, drawing national attention for its startling mix of family tragedy, financial intrigue, and criminal accusations.
