Our Sweet Emma — Forever in Our Hearts

Our Sweet Emma — Forever in Our Hearts

Today, our beautiful Emma, lovingly known as Grandma, crossed over the Rainbow Bridge.

We rescued Emma this past January, during those bitterly cold days. She had spent her entire life as a breeder dog, living outside through harsh winters and long, lonely nights. When she first came to us, she was heartworm-positive, suffering from mammary cancer, and struggling with severe arthritis. Her body carried the weight of years of neglect — but her spirit remained gentle, kind, and full of quiet strength.

In our care, Emma slowly began to blossom. She gained weight, discovered the softness of warm blankets, and claimed her big kennel as her safe and cozy haven. She learned the simple joy of comfort, of being cared for, and of being loved — perhaps for the very first time in her life.

But today, Emma took a sudden turn for the worse. In that heartbreaking moment, we knew the greatest act of love we could give her was to let her go peacefully, held close and surrounded by the warmth she had finally known. As we said goodbye, we couldn’t help but think of all the puppies she brought into the world over the years — how many lives she gave, while enduring so much pain and hardship herself.

Her mate had been found lifeless beside her the day we rescued her, yet through unimaginable suffering, Emma carried herself with grace, resilience, and quiet dignity.

Emma, you were truly special. We hope the months you spent with us showed you the love, comfort, and respect you always deserved.

A heartfelt thank you to Dr. Krieger, who cared for Emma from the very first day and was by her side again when she needed him most.

Run free now, sweet Grandma. Your pain is gone, but your memory will forever remain in our hearts. You were loved. You mattered. And you will never be forgotten.
