Sobekhotep V, Pharaoh of Egypt’s 13th Dynasty

This granodiorite statue offers a window into the twilight years of the Middle Kingdom, a period marked by political instability and shifting power.

Sobekhotep V, whose throne name was Khasekhemre Neferhotep, ruled during a time of internal turmoil and the gradual rise of the Hyksos in the Nile Delta.

The statue portrays him in a seated pose, symbolizing both royal authority and divine connection. Distinct features include a broad face, slightly protruding ears, and the iconic nemes headdress, all meticulously carved from durable granodiorite.
