Gold Earring with Nike Driving a Two-Horse Chariot

This extraordinary ancient Greek earring, crafted between 350 and 325 BC, features Nike—the winged goddess of Victory—poised in a two-horse chariot.
Fashioned from over a hundred individual pieces of gold, the earring exemplifies the remarkable technical skill and artistry of Hellenistic jewelers.
Nike is shown adorned with a radiant headdress and wings, delicately grasping the reins of her chariot. Amazingly, the tiny wheels of the chariot still turn, more than two thousand years after its creation. The expressive detail on the horses’ faces and the survival of the fine golden reins speak to the durability and finesse of ancient craftsmanship.
Now housed in the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, this surviving earring stands as a dazzling testament to both mythological symbolism and the precision of classical artistry.
