Chihuahua, Mexico – A year-old cold case involving the disappearance of a young waitress from a local restaurant has taken a dramatic new turn following a startling discovery by a kitchen employee. The find—a hidden time capsule containing personal items and a cryptic message—suggests the waitress was aware she was in danger.

In March 2012, Miguel Torres Sandoval, a cook who had recently joined El Fogón del Norte restaurant, was finishing his night cleaning shift. He noticed a loose kitchen floor tile that shifted every time he passed over it. Upon lifting the tile, Miguel discovered a rectangular hole cut into the concrete, inside which was a small, plastic-wrapped metal box.

A Waitress’s Warning

Inside the box, Miguel found several items belonging to a former employee: an old restaurant ID badge identifying Rosa Delgado Morales, a waitress hired in January 2011; a silver ring with initials; Polaroid photographs; and a small diary.

The diary provided a chilling clue. Dated August 15, 2011—just one day before she vanished—the first page, written in a woman’s hand, read:

“If anything happens to me, find Aurelio. He knows everything about this dirty business.”

The photographs also raised questions, showing unusual angles of the restaurant’s interior, including the manager’s office with documents scattered on the desk, and a photo of a man counting bills next to boxes. A third photo captured the restaurant’s rear parking lot at night with unidentified cars and individuals.

The Missing Night

Rosa Delgado Morales, 23, was last seen at her workplace on August 16, 2011. A short newspaper article from that time mentioned police were investigating possible links to organized crime in her disappearance. She was described as a hardworking young woman who was supporting her younger sisters after the death of their parents.

During his shift the following day, Miguel questioned a senior employee, Lucía Hernández Rojas, about Rosa. Lucía recalled that on her last night, Rosa seemed “nervous” and asked if anyone else would be staying late. The official story from the manager, Aurelio Vázquez Herrera, was that Rosa had left early because she felt unwell, but she had left all her belongings, including her purse, in her locker.

The Search for Answers

Realizing the gravity of his discovery, Miguel searched online and confirmed the details of the disappearance. He recognized the name Aurelio in Rosa’s note as the restaurant manager.

Driven by a sense of duty, Miguel made the decision to take the box to Rosa’s family. He located her address in the Riveras del Sacramento neighborhood. Upon knocking, he was greeted by Carmen, Rosa’s sister.

“I’m looking for the Delgado family… I work at the restaurant where Rosa used to work,” Miguel told her.

Carmen’s face instantly grew serious. “I’m Carmen, Rosa’s sister. What do you know about her?

The discovery of Rosa’s hidden cache is expected to reopen the investigation into her sudden disappearance and could potentially shed light on the “dirty business” she referenced in her diary. Authorities have not yet commented on the new evidence.
